How do I stop companies from sending me e-mail advertizing?

I have, on several occasions, asked Publishetrs Clearing House to stop sending me e-mail messages.

However they refuse to honor my request.

How do I stop companies from sending me e-mail advertizing?
Call and get a manager; and e-mail their customer service department. Let them know they are violating "spam" laws if they continue to send yoou mail after you request to be removed and forward the whole thing to the FTC
Reply:If they are legit companies, they SHOULD take you off the list within a month. That's how long it took me to get off the newsletter list for a video game company.

If they are not a legit company, a spammer for example, there really is no way to get yourself removed. If you click the links they provide on the bottom and provide your e-mail address to "remove" yourself from their list, that just proves that your email account is valid and open and they send you more or pass along your address to others so they can spam you as well.
Reply:I know its a pain, but get a new e-mail address. this is the best way.
Reply:Legitimate companies will honor your request to stop sending you spam. However, many spammers send out spoofed messages that appear to be from legitimate companies in order to get a response from you. Once they receive that response, your address is confirmed as being "active", and they can sell it to other spammers for a higher value than an unconfirmed address. (Yes, spammers sell lists of addresses to other spammers. It's all part of the game.)

If you know you have had dealings with a company that is sending you adverts via email and you know they have your email address, it's usually safe to contact them and ask them to stop. But if you've never given your address to Publishers Clearing House then it's probably a spammer who is trying to confirm your address. Replying to them via email will only result in you receiving more spam from other spammers.

Your best bet is to have your Bulk Mail Folder turned on and check it daily for email you want to keep before deleting all the spam it's collected during the day. You need to check it first because some systems have an annoying tendency to view mail from non-spammers as spam. Mine thinks that if I send mail to myself, it's spam. Go figure...
Reply:flag all companies and the adv come in bulk just flag ur bulk folder no to recieve any mgs
