E-mail catastrophe is sending a group e-mail and NOT using the BCC. To avoid this, use BCC!
What are some e-mail catastrophes that you have heard about? How could they be avoided? ?
There's a new "trojan" sort of thing people should be aware of.
If you have your browser open to, say, your banking site (and you're logged into it) and you open an email that's being sent by someone trying to get into your banking account (and you're using the "right" email program), the email you open sends an email to the thief with the login and password information for your banking site.
This can be prevented by using safe email programs - like Thunderbird - and by not opening questionable emails. You DID NOT win the Irish Sweepstakes if you never bought a ticket, and the ex-treasurer of Nigeria DOES NOT have $25 million that he wants to put into your bank account. eBay and PayPal are not closing your account within the next 24 hours if you don't respond to the email [check the address for the response, not the text you're clicking on - if you don't know how, don't click] ans dome bank in another country doesn't want to talk to you about your account in their bank.
There are really otherwise-intelligent adults who fall for these schemes - and more.
